The mind does not like to stop thinking and most people find it difficult to sit still for long periods. This is the reason that most people have many doubts regarding meditation and its benefits in the long run.
Here is an important piece of advice related to how to approach meditation and deal with certain problems:
a) The power of thinking
Most people when meditating for the first one. They will also find it surprising about how busy their mind really is. Most scientists estimate that about 80,000 thoughts go through the mind every day. There are a lot of things inside the brain. This is the main reason why people often feel quite isolated and separate from one another.
The brain is over loaded with various thoughts. These thoughts are further divided into several smaller thoughts. As soon as a person sits on a cushion and classes his eyes, the mind opens to the power of thought and its hold on them.
When someone starts the process of meditation, one finds it hard to concentrate and meditate. The feeling can even arise that it is hard to stay still because no one is used to stay still for so long. This is very normal.
b) Being still
Deep inside the mind, there is something real and stability that each one of us is capable to focus on. This is pure consciousness. One requires to get into tune with the breath one takes in and through out. This eventually leads to peace of mind, reduction of cravings and feeling of oneness with the rest of the world.

Starting off with meditation may be difficult. However, you will be able to get used to the act.

Why Meditation At Home?

Recently I felt as though the rug was pulled from underneath me. I wondered what it was, and realized that I had not properly meditated for a couple of months. I see why people have so much chaos in there lives, and I hope that this article titled why meditation at home can help.
I have termed meditation as medication in the past. I have done this for a good reason, that reason is fast paced living, stress and no time to clear the clutter.
It amazes me how some people can literally run like a motor spinning till something gives way. Our bodies are holistic, that means that you provide it wholesome food and wholesome activities that are mixed between work and play, and the body functions, if you take something away and we have problems.
Like how friction burns, the excess on life causes stress. This stress is a danger sign of the highest degree. Words like hypertension, stress, strokes, etc, all stem from this problem of imbalance in the body.
Stress is a killer. People go to work in dead end jobs or sometimes highly paying ones, work hard and pile on the stress. Over a lifetime the mind clogs up with so much rubbish, and it is only when we go on a vacation that we can take our minds off things, however even here we are not doing the best we can to keep in check.
Meditation is a key aspect to the mind, whereas vitamins and minerals are for the body. Without vitamin C, people get scurvy, the teeth and gums deteriorate. The truth is that a clogged up mind can cause serious damage.
Ok, so let us find solutions. A solution is meditation. The question is what is meditation really? Is it sitting with a master meditation guru? Is it going half way around the world to go on a pilgrimage?
It is none of these, though it can be those also, but it is unnecessary. Meditation at home doesnt need anything apart from peace and quiet.
Relaxing and turning attention inside can be an immense change when it is first done. Relaxing your body, and chewing on thoughts or rather just letting them flow is a great way to release a lot of pressure.
The benefits of even a few minutes of this each day can really make a big difference. Someone stressed may find another 10 years added to there lifespan. I recommend it, and if you know anyone in a position of major stress refer this article source to the person.
They will be glad with the extra 10 potential years, and one where with less stress we become more effective. What did it require? Only a few minutes each day, and the OM mantra is optional. Overall enjoy, relax, and have fun with meditation.

Using Meditation to Reduce Daily Stress

Learning to live in complete acceptance of ourselves, content with where we are now without craving the past or longing for the future, is the stillness of mind that meditation will bring. This state of non-thinking is called mindfulness; it is the quality of being fully engaged in the present moment without analyzing the experience.
Living in the twenty-first century is contingent upon learning to volley a constant barrage of tasks. We suffer feelings of inadequacy and guilt over feats we didn't accomplish and endeavours that did not shine as well as when someone else completed them. Our technical society changes faster than people can learn to adapt. Repetitive busy schedules establish a fertile ground for the growth of stress. It is ingrained in our culture to stay one step ahead of disaster. Unfortunately, the consequence of this is that we remain one step removed from ourselves. We don't treasure the gifts we have to offer ourselves nor do we see the value of what we can offer other people.
What is Meditation?
Relaxation and meditation are two different states. In meditation, the mind is focussed while the body is relaxed. Meditation requires a balancing of effort and relaxation, both physically and mentally. Self-awareness brings about humility and a better union of spirit, mind and body. Relaxation of the body prepares the mind for meditation. If the body is relaxed, we are released from the preoccupation with its comfort which sets the stage for meditation to begin. Meditation is a challenging state to achieve because it is hard to focus the mind when the body is relaxed; there is a tendency to drift off to sleep.
Train Yourself to be Mindful
Setting the groundwork for meditation with mindful relaxation is a powerful antidote to stress. Regardless of your success with finding a higher plane of introspection, poising the body in a relaxed state is an effective technique for reducing anxiety and depression.
Mindfulness Meditation Techniques
Sit comfortably or lie on your back. Place your hands on your abdomen so you can feel the difference between your inhale and exhale. Mentally scan your body starting with the head and drift from body part to body part simply acknowledging how they feel. Sense your skin temperature, the pressure of your body weight against the ground and notice how your clothing feels. If you feel yourself starting to drift off, bring yourself back into the present by focusing on the sensations inside of your body; the flow of your breath and the feel of your skin.
If you do not like to sit or cannot find a place to rest, practise mindfulness while you walk. Be aware of the sole of your foot as you step down on it. Allow the sounds in the environment to pass through you without analyzing them. Experience the movement of your body, the rhythm of your breath, and the feeling of wind on your face.
Relax while you eat. Slow down your eating with mindful attention to the texture of food in your mouth, the reaction of your saliva to the taste, the response of your body to the aroma, the feel of swallowing, and the difference between feeling hungry and beginning to satiate your hunger.
Practise
Try to find 10 to 20 minutes each day to experience mindfulness. Avoid meditating when you are too sleepy to stay aware of your thoughts or in the place where you would normally feel stressed. Try different locations. If you enjoy time alone, practise by yourself in the dark or with a single candlelight. If you are a social person, try a class; the presence of other people might motivate you to continue trying.
Yoga is a wonderful introduction to the practise of relaxation and meditation, but you don't have to take yoga to practise mindfulness. Daily meditation will change your thought patterns; it will weaken your association with negative emotions and strengthen the ones related to happiness and serenity. At AmatlanYoga.com our goal is to provide the conditions through which retreatants can deepen their practice, make friends with themselves and the world, and return home with a greater capacity for both contentment and purpose

The Properties of Light

The new born baby first experienced the light of this world. So let us discuss what Veda says about the light.
“Seven horses draw the chariot of the sun, tied by snakes”.  Rig Veda 5. 45. 9
This verse has a significant meaning about the property of light. The seven horses refer to the nature of light as being composed of 7 rays and the snake symbolizes its curved path. These colors are actually described as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, Indigo and violet in the vadik sutras.
Sir Issac Newton (4 January 1643 – 31 March 1727) experimented to split light into its 7 colors by a prism. Before 16th century this was unknown to the western world. And modern science also proved that light is not traveled at a straight line but as a wave pattern just like a snake goes.
“Yojananam Dwe Dwe Shate Dwe Cha Yojane
Aken Nimishardhena Krammana Namostute”
Rig Veda 1,50-4
In the verse Sun light speed is referred with the help of units called YOJAN. It referred that sunlight moves 2202 Yojans in Half Nimish.
Calculation part-
Unit of Distance: Yojana
1 Yojan = 4 Kose,
0r 1 Yojan = 9 miles
Unit of Time: Nimesa
15 Nimish = 1 Kashth
30 Kashth = 1 Kaal ( 30×15 Nimish = 450 Nimish)
30 Kaal = 1 Muhurt ( 450×30 Nimish = 13500 Nimish)
30 Muhurt = 1 Ahoratr ( 13500 × 30 Nimish = 405000 Nimish)
1 Ahoratr = 1 Day (86400 Seconds)
1 Nimish = 0.21333 Second
Thus it states
Speed of light= 185,796.6531 miles per seconds
The modern science says that the speed of light is approximately 186,282 miles per second. So the calculation of Veda is very close to the modern calculation. The modern science says that sunlight contains many types of rays such as, infrared, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays etc. but Veda describes about one hundred thousand different types of rays each possessing specific certain properties.

Why is Hindu religion called Sanatana Dharma ? Who founded Hinduism ?

Sanatana means “eternal”. Dharma is word that defies exact translation in English or any other language, but can be said to mean “the values of life that sustain us.” Therefore, Sanatana Dharma is that religion which is based on life’s eternal (universal) values.
By its literal meaning alone, it is clear that Sanatana Dharma is not a religion founded by any historical figure. It is based on eternal truths-principals and values of life- that holds true for all people, in all places at all times-past, present and future.

Vedic Astrology

Vedic Astrology

Vedic Astrology is about 7000 years old and the oldest branch of  astrology known . This science has been mentioned in the Vedas and carried down through generations. Vedic Astrology uses a unique system of dasas and sub divisional charts that are different from Western Astrology. It can give astonishing results when an expert  Vedic scholar reads your chart based on your correct date, place and  time of birth.

Vedic Astrology is an ancient Indian science which explains planetary motions and positions with respect to time and their effect on humans and other entities on earth. Vedic astrology can be traced thousands of years back. Early Vedic astrology was only based on the movement of planets with respect to stars, but later on it started including zodiac signs as well. According to Vedic astrology there are 27 constellations made up of 12 zodiac signs, 9 planets and 12 houses with each house and planet representing some aspect of human life. Depending on when a person is born, the 12 signs are distributed among the 12 houses and 9 planets are placed in various houses. This visual representation of the snapshot of the signs and planets is called a horoscope chart. Vedic astrology is nothing but interpreting the meaning of these arrangements as it applies to humans and other entities.

Indian astrology is popularly referred to as Vedic astrology.

This is not because it is there in the Vedas. There is no mention of astrology in the Vedas. However, it is one of the Vedangas, i.e., limb or branch of Vedas, and dates back to the Vedic period. Several of the Poojas and remedial measures prescribed in the Indian astrology are as per the Vedic system. Hence, it is called Vedic astrology.

The Vedangas are six in number. They are: Siksha or phonetics, Kalpa or ritual, Vyakarana or grammar, Nirukta or etymology, Chhandas or metrics and Jyotishya or astronomy and astrology. These are mentioned in the Upanishads.

It is impossible ascertain the exact time of origin of our astrology. Even the most famous historians differ wildly, from 1200 BC to 2500 BC while trying to fix our Vedic period. A lot of them, especially the westerners, still study India based on the Mahenjadaro and Harappan discoveries, which were discovered in the 1920’s!! Several archeological discoveries of recent times date our culture to 7500 BC, making it the ancient most civilization in the world. Our astrology has details of the horoscopes of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama and many other ancient Indian kings and queens, recorded thousands of years ago. The Bhishma Parva and Udyoga Parva chapters of Mahabharata mention many astrological descriptions and omens just before the Mahabharata war. It also describes a period of draught with several planetary combinations. There is also a very clear reference about two eclipses, a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse occurring, creating a rare 13 day lunar fortnight. Available scientific research data shows that the Mahabharata war must have occurred either in 3129 BC or 2559 BC. According to the Hindu Panchangas, maintained from ages, Kaliyuga era is counted from February 17/18 midnight 3102 BC. Hindu epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana have been written off as myths by the western historians. However the recent discovery of the submerged ancient city Dwaraka, (the site of the legendary city of Lord Krishna, which got submerged in the sea after the death of Lord Krishna), led by Dr. S.R. Rao of the Marine Archaeology Unit of the National Institute of Oceanography of India lends a lot of credence to our mythology. Various texts attribute the origin of Indian astrology to various gods and Rishis. It is futile to ascertain who was the originator. The most popularly followed astrological classics today are the ones written by Rishis like Parashara, Varahamihira, Garga, Jaimini and their followers. People in those days had no satellites or telescopes and yet the planetary positions and their motions recorded by them are as accurate as the planetary positions and degrees recorded today using the space satellites. Our ancient astrologers used their divine intuition to record these planetary movements and their effects on us.

Astrology has a twofold purpose. On one hand it is used as a tool to select the right month the right date and the right time to start various auspicious rites and rituals so that the results are better. On the other hand it is used as a guide to study the destiny of an individual.

Indian astrology is based on the theory of fate. The good and the bad actions of the past life determine your fate or Karma of your present life, and the actions of your present life determine your future Karma. According to Indian astrology a person is born at that place, on that day and on that moment when his individual fate is in perfect mathematical harmony with the progress of the stars in heaven. However it does not preach total dependence on fate. Astrology lets you know what you were born with, what your possibilities are, the limitations, your strong points and your drawbacks. What type of life partners and professions suit you and to expect is also indicated. It also prescribes various remedial measures to ward off the bad effects and to enhance the good results. Astrology is your roadmap of destiny. However your fate is in your hands. The scriptures guide us by telling us what is good and what is bad; what to do and what not to do; how to do and how not to do. You are given a piece of land and the seeds to sow. How much effort to put in to it, what amount of manure and water to add and when how to reap the produce is your job. After that it is you who have to act using your knowledge intelligence, discrimination and experience. Fate is like a game of cards where you cannot help the cards that have been dealt to you but how to play them is in your hands. You may get good cards but if you play badly you will lose and you may get bad cards and still may win if you play carefully. Don’t blame the roadmap if you get drunk, drive badly and have an accident! In the Mahabharata Lord Krishna gave advise to Arjuna and also to Duryodhana. One listened and the other did not!

In the Egyptian, Greek, western and Chinese systems of astrology only the birth chart is cast to give predictions. This is hopelessly inaccurate and insufficient. For example, moon, the fastest moving of the nine planets, remains in one sign fro two and half days. The ascendant, or Lagna, extends for a period of two hours. In these two hours, according to the present birth rate, several thousand people are born in the world with the same birth chart! All of them cannot have the same destiny. Hence their predictions based on this and the monthly transits tends to be inaccurate. They are somewhat accurate about the nature of signs etc., but when it comes to predicting the events in ones life and their timing they are nowhere. You don’t really need an astrologer to tell you that, for example if you are Scorpio sign, you tend to be jealous and possessive! Vedic astrology has a four dimensional approach.

Firstly, we have the divisional chart system, called the Varga system. Based on the planetary degrees at the time of birth, sixteen divisional charts are prepared, by dividing the degrees of the planets. These divisional charts are studied to ascertain the strength and weakness of planets and houses and also to study various aspects of ones life. For example, one-ninth division called Navamsa to study spouse and married life, one-tenth division to study profession, one-seventh for children and so on. The last Varga, called Shodashamsa, is prepared by dividing the planet’s degrees in to one-sixtieth part! Second is the dasa system. Based on ones moons degrees at birth, we calculate the Dasas, or the ruling periods of various planets, which keeps changing during ones life. It is not just one planets dasa but Maha dasa, or main dasa, of a planet, Antardasa, or sub period, of another planet and so on till we arrive at a fifth level dasa to study each day.

Third is the Gochara, or transit of planets. Planets transiting various houses produce various results. But a planet transits a sign for quite some time. For example Saturn transits a sign for two and half years. During this entire period its results cannot be totally good or bad. Vedic astrology further pinpoints its good and bad periods even during its transit in one sign. We have the Asthakavarga and Prastharasthakavarga system, which divides a planets transit in a sign into eight parts and shows which part is good and which part is bad.

Lastly, there is the Prasna Kundali system, or chart cast based on the time of the query. This is studied as an add-on chart to give predictions.

The modern scientists do not accept astrology. But it is a known fact that planets do have their effects on us. The doctors of almost all mental asylums accept the fact that during the full moon and the new Moon periods the mental patients behave erratically. The police record the same effects on many criminals. The modern scientists know some of the effects of the ultraviolet rays, gamma rays and beta rays of the planets. But unfortunately they don’t have the divine wisdom of our ancient is to know all the effects fully.

TYPES OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY

Vedic astrology (Jyotisha) has three main branches:

Siddhanta (Astronomy): Astronomy & its application to astrology
Samhita (Mundane astrology): Covers Mundane astrology, predicting important events related to countries such as war, earth quakes, political events, astro – meteorology, financial positions, electional astrology; house & construction related matters (Vaastu Shaastra), animals, portents & omens etc.
    Hora (Predictive astrology):

This branch has the following different styles / sub branches:-
Jaatak Shaastra / Hora Shaastra (Natal Astrology / horoscopy): Prediction based on individual horoscope.
Muhurt or Muhurtha (Electional astrology): Selection of beneficial time to initiate an activity to get maximum fruition from the life activities.
Swar Shaastra (Phonetical astrology): Predictions based on name & sounds.
Prashna (Horary astrology): Predictions based on time when a question is asked by querent / querist.
Ankjyotisha / Kabala (Numerology): A branch of astrology based on numbers.
Nadi Astrology: An ancient treatise having detailed predictions for individuals.
Tajik Shaastra / Varsha Phal (Annual Horoscopy): Astrology based on annual solar returns.
Tajik Shaastra / Varsha Phal (Annual Horoscopy): Astrology based on annual solar returns.
Jaimini Sutras: A non-conventional method of timing of events based on Famous Indian astrologer, Acharya Jaimini.
Nastjaatakam (Lost Horoscopy): Art of tracing / construction of lost horoscopes.
Streejaatak (female astrology): A special branch of astrology dealing with female nativitie

DIFFERENCE BETWEEEN VEDIC AND WESTERN ASTROLOGY

The most easily referred to difference between the two lies in the method of measurement of the Zodiac. Vedic astrology uses primarily the sidereal zodiac (in which stars are considered to be the fixed background against which the motion of the planets is measured), whereas most Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac (the motion of the planets is measured against the position of the Sun on the Spring equinox). This difference becomes only noticeable over time, after the course of several centuries, as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. Synchronically, the two systems are identical, with just a shift of the origin of the ecliptic longitude by about 22 degrees or days, resulting on the placement of planets in the previous sign in Western charts about 80% of the time.

 SCEINTIFIC BASIS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY

Ancient Hindu literature is full of mythology related to zodiac signs, constellations (also known as Nakshatras) and planets, which explain a lot of astrological rules. However the popular opinion is that the mythology was just a method that our ancient seers used to explain some very complex physical laws, which were beyond the comprehension of common people. Unfortunately even today’s modern science has not been able to fully understand those physical laws behind this ancient method although it’s getting there very fast. Our current understanding of the science of astrology lies in statistics and probability. Statistics is the branch of mathematics, which can deal with correlation between two or more seemingly independent events without knowing the cause of that correlation. If in a chart of 1000 people have the same astrological chart then it can be seen that certain astrological rules hold true in 70%-80% of them. In statistical terms we may say that the occurrence of a specific event in one’s life when certain planetary combination exists is “statistically significant”. Let’s say that you flip a coin 1000 times then the probability of “heads” is always near 50%. Now let’s say that you observe the results of flipping a coin during the sun set and sun rise. If you find, after an year long test, that probability of “heads ” coming up during sunrise is not actually 50%, as expected, but its 70%, then you can actually construct a rule that if you flip a coin during sun rise, the chances of you getting a “heads” will always be more. Vedic astrology can be explained in a similar way. Certain combinations in one’s chart actually result in a prediction, which turns out to be correct in 70-80% of the charts having that combination. We may not explain it yet as to why it happens but the evidence is pretty strong that events can be predicted with very reasonable statistical significance.

 Malefics and benefics:

Planets are termed natural benefics and natural malefics:-

These are: Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and increasing Moon-natural benefics; Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu-Natural malefics.  If Mercury joins a natural malefic, he does not remain auspicious. As regards the Moon, he is auspicious from 10thday of dark fortnight through the 5th day of bright fortnight.Apart from the above, planets are classified as favourable and adverse based on births under the 12 different ascendants. These are narrated below:

Aries:

Pure benefics are Jupiter and the Sun. Malefics are Saturn, Mercury and Venus. Venus is the prime killer. Jupiter will give inauspicious results if he is conjunct an adverse planet. However when with Saturn he is not wholly adverse.

Taurus:

Saturn and the Sun are benefics and can cause Rajayoga. Jupiter, Venus and Moon are not auspicious and may prove death inflicting palnets. Mercury can cause some Yoga.

Gemini:

Venus is the only benefic. Mars, Sun and Jupiter are inauspicious. Saturn and Jupiter together behave in the same manner as for Aries birth. The Moon is the prime killer. (Some replace the Moon with Saturn).

Cancer:

Mercury and Venus are malefics. Mars, Jupiter and Moon are auspicious. Mars is a supreme Rajayoga karaka. Saturn is capable of inflicting death and is Maraka lord.

Leo:

Inauspicious planets are Mercury, Venus and Saturn. Mars, Jupiter and the Sun are benefics. Jupiter with Venus cannot give fully benefic results. Saturn is Maraka and the Moon’s effects depend on her association.

Virgo:

Mars, Jupiter and the Moon are adverse. Venus is the only favourable planet. Mars is a Maraka lord.

Libra:

Saturn and Mercury prove auspicious. The moon and Mercury and capable of conferring great benefits and position. Jupiter, the Sun and Mars are inauspicious. Mars is a Maraka lord. Venus gives balanced results for this ascendant, if unafflicted by others.

Scorpio:

Jupiter, as well as the Moon are benefics, the Moon and the Sun are Rajayoga planets. Mercury and Venus give inauspicious effects. Saturn gives mixed results . Jupiter if illrelated will become a Maraka. Mars is of mixed nature.

Sagittarius:

Venus is adverse. Mercury, Mars and the Sun are yogakaraakas. If the Sun joins Mercury he will also become a Rajayoga Karaka. Saturn is a killer apart from Venus.

Capricorn:
Mars, Jupiter and the Moon are inauspicious. Venus and Mercury are benefical. Saturn is not a Maraka lord, while Mars etc. may prove as killers.

Aquarius:

Jupiter, Moon and Mars produce adverse results. Venus and Saturn are exclusively benefics. Mars and Jupiter are killers. If others are related to one of these two, they will also become adverse.

Pisces:

Saturn, Venus, Mercurry and the Sun are classified as unfavourable. Mars and Moon are auspicious. Mars and Jupiter are Yogakarakas. Saturn and Mercury are Marakas.

The purpose & the division of the Zodiac

The ancient Hindu way of life, based on the Karma theory, looked at the progress of the human soul based on three essential macroscopic parameters. They are: The Karma acquired from your past life, the karma you acquire by virtue of your actions in your present life and based on these your future life. They classified our present life into four broad aspects. Dharma or right living, Artha or the monetary aspect, Kama or the desires and finally Moksha or spiritual progress and liberation. They recognized the importance of balancing these four aspects of life for the proper progress. To understand and improve all these four aspects they gave us various Shastras. The Veda shastras for spiritual progress, the Dharma and Nyaya shastras for the legal and social conduct, the Artha ( finance), Ganita (mathematics), Vanijya (trade) shastras for earning money, Sangeeta (music) Nritya (dance) Shilpa (art) Kama (sex) Paka (cooking) shastras for pleasure. Finally the Jyotishya ( Jyoti=light+ Isha=God meaning the light of God to remove ignorance) was given to us as a guide, to get the best results during the most suitable times, in each of the above four areas of life. The entire basis and theology of our astrology is based on these principles.

The Division of the Zodiac:

From the astrological point of view, for the purpose of charting the planetary positions and calculations etc, the 360 degrees of the zodiac was divided into 12 equal parts, called Rasi or sign, of 30 degrees each. This is the 1st basic division. In the Vedic astrology there are 9 Grahas or planets which influence our lives. Out of these seven – the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn – are actual heavenly bodies. The other two – Rahu and Ketu – are shadowy planets whose positions are calculated mathematically. Vedic astrology ignores Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto.

These 9 planets own certain rasis, represent several things in our life, have several inherent qualities and influence certain facets of our life. It all depends on how these planets are placed and in which rasis they are placed. Let us understand these basics first.

The names of the 12 Rasis (Zodiac signs) in their natural order and their rulers:

1. Aries or Mesha is ruled by Mars.It extends from 00:00 degrees to 30:00′ in the zodiac.

2. Taurus or Vrishabha is ruled by Venus. It extends from 30:00 degrees to 60:00′

3. Gemini or Mithuna is ruled by Mercury. It extends from 60:00 degrees to 90:00′

4. Cancer or Karka is ruled by the Moon. It extends from 90:00 degrees to 120:00′

5. Leo or Simha is ruled by the Sun. It extends from 120:00 degrees to 150:00′

6. Virgo or Kanya is ruled by Mercury. It extends from 150:00 degrees to 180:00′

7. Libra or Tula is ruled by Venus. It extends from 180:00 degrees to 210:00′

8. Scorpio or Vrischika is ruled by Mars. It extends from 210:00 degrees to 240:00′

9. Sagittarius or Dhanu is ruled by Jupiter. It extends from 240:00 degrees to 270:00′

10. Capricorn or Makara is ruled by Saturn. It extends from 270:00 degrees to 300:00′

11. Aquarius or Kumbha is ruled by Saturn. It extends from 300:00 degrees to 330:00′

12. Pisces or Meena is ruled by Jupiter. It extends from 330:00 degrees to 360:00′

So it is clear that the sun and the moon own one house each and all the other 5 planets own 2 houses each. Rahu and Ketu do not own any houses.

The rasis are further divided into several categories. The categories are:

The Trikona or Triangular groups.

The 1st triangle formed by Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are Agni-Tatwa or Fire signs. They are active, aggressive, adventurous and dominating by nature and are good leaders and administrators. These signs, and people with these signs strong, have the Dharma aspect predominant.

The 2nd triangle formed by Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are Bhu-Tatwa or Earth signs. They are down to earth, practical and careful by nature and have a good sense of money. These signs, and people with these signs strong, have the Artha aspect predominant.

The 3rd triangle formed by Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are Vayu-Tatwa or Air signs. They are intelligent, carefree, jovial and social by nature and enjoy life more than the other signs. These signs, and people with these signs strong, have the Kama aspect predominant.

The 4th triangle formed by Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are Jala-Tatwa or Water signs. They are emotional, sensitive, romantic, artistic, nature loving and spiritual by nature. These signs, and people with these signs strong, have the Moksha aspect predominant.

2. The Kendra or Quadrangular groups

Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn forming the 1st quadrangle are Chara or Movable rasis. They are active by nature, like change and direct in their approach. Normally people with chara rasis dominating in the birth chart travel a lot.

Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius forming the 2nd quadrangle are Sthira or Fixed rasis. They take their time to act, do not like change, and have a fixed views and ways of doing things.

Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces forming the 3rd quadrangle are Dwichara or Dual rasis. They are very intelligent and like exploring new ways and theories.

The Grahas or Planets and what they signify

Sun or Surya is a royal planet and the king in astrology. He represents the soul, will power, father, paternal relations, the king or the high officials. Its hot and angry, colour is red, metal is gold and gem is ruby. Sun represents the eastern direction.

The sun stays in each rasi for one month and takes one year to complete the round of the zodiac. Its motion is quite fixed and a lot of Indian festivals are as per the suns entry into the various signs. For example on January 14 it enters Makara and this day is celebrated as Makara Sankranti, On April 13th/14th it enters Mesha and this day is celebrated as Baisakhi. The change in seasons is also linked to the suns entry into various signs and nakshatras. He is the Pitrukaraka or planet connected with father.

Moon or Chandra is also a royal planet and is the queen in astrology. He represents the mind, emotions, sensitivity, the mother, house and domestic comforts, milk, sea and all things connected with the sea, hotel and food industry, textiles and apparels. Its cold and calm, Its color is white, direction north-east, metal is silver and gem is pearl. The moon is the fastest moving of the 9 planets and takes approximately 2-1/2 days to travel a sign. When the sun and moon are in the same rasi it is called Amavasya or new moon day or the 1st day of the dark fortnight. The lunar days or Tithi changes with every 12 degree difference between the sun and the moon. When the sun and the moon are in the exact opposite signs or 180 degrees apart, it is called Poornima or the full moon day or the 1st day of the bright fortnight. He is the Matrukaraka or planet connected with mother.

The sign in which your Moon is placed in the birth chart is called your Janma Rasi. The star constellation in which your Moon is placed is called your Janma Nakshatra.

Mars or Mangala is the commander in astrology. He represents, energy, courage, younger brothers & sisters, armed forces, the police forces, commanders, administrators, men in high position, land, engineering, metals, real estate agents and surgery. Its metal is copper and gem is coral, color is red and direction south.

He represents speech, intelligence, maternal uncles, short journeys, medical profession, trade, computers and the web, astrology and knowledge of the shastras, accounts, mathematics, journalism, printing and publishing. Its metal is bronze, gem is emerald, color is green and direction north.

Mercury takes about a month to travel a rasi. It is always within 27 degree distance from the sun from astrological point of view.

Jupiter or Guru is known as the “Devaguru” or the guru of the Gods. He represents higher knowledge, spirituality, priests, temples, teachers, research & scientists, layers & judges, children and knowledge of the sastras and astrology. Its color is yellow, metal gold, gem yellow sapphire and direction north – east. Jupiter takes about one year to travel a sign. He is the Putrakaraka or planet connected with children.

Venus or Shukra is the “Daityaguru” or the guru of the demons. He represents spouse, sex life, kidneys and sex organ, dance, music, arts, gems and jewelers, wines, bars, gambling places, acting, fashion, cosmetics and beauty products. Its metal is silver, gem is diamond, direction is south-east and colour is white.

Venus takes about a month to travel a sign and completes the round of the zodiac in 12 months. From astrological point of view it is always within 48 degrees of the sun. He is the Kalatrakaraka or planet connected with spouse.

Saturn or Shani is the servant in astrology. He represents hard work, sorrow, old men, servants and the lower level workers, people in the iron and steel industry, municipality and drainage works. A well placed Saturn can bestow excellent power, prestige, name and fame and a badly placed Saturn can devastate you. Its metal is iron, color is blue, gem is blue sapphire and direction is west.

Saturn is the slowest moving of the 9 planets and takes approximately 2-1/2 years to transit a sign and completes the round of the zodiac in 30 years. He is the Udyogakaraka or planet connected with profession.

Rahu or Dragons Head or North Node represents, foreigners, foreign countries, foreign travel, engineering and the technical trades, smoke, old men, grand parents, theft, gambling, drinking, nonconformists, the underworld and the bad elements in the society. Its color is black, metal mixed-metal and gem is Gomedh.

Rahu takes approximately 1-1/2 years to travel a sign and hence completes the round of the zodiac in 18 years.

Ketu or Dragons Tail or South Node represents grand parents, technical trades, spiritual inclinations, superstitions and electronics. Its colour is brown and gem is cat’s eye.

Ketu is always in the opposite sign to Rahu, i.e., exactly 180 degrees away. Ketu also takes approximately 1-1/2 years to travel a sign and hence completes the round of the zodiac in 18 years.

Each of these 9 planets produce different results, and at times totally opposite results, while placed in the 12 different rasis. Again each has some good results and some bad results in each sign. This is an important aspect of astrology which must be remembered. You will learn about these results later.

While placed at various specific distances from the sun, the planets Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn become retrograde or appear to move in the backward direction. Sun and moon do not have any retrograde motion. The motion of Rahu and Ketu is always opposite to that of the other planets.

The seven main planets rule the seven days of the week

Sun rules Sunday.

Moon rules Monday.

Mars rules Tuesday.

Mercury rules Wednesday.

Jupiter rules Thursday.

Venus rules Friday.

Saturn rules Saturday.

Rahu and Ketu do not rule any day

Normally while referring to the qualities etc of the planets, they are referred to in this sequence, i.e., sun to saturn in the week day sequence. Remember this important fact.

The Nakshatras or Star constellations

First the zodiac was divided into 12 main rasis, to study the effects of the planets placed there. Then the ancient seers added another sub divisional system of breaking down the zodiac into 27 Nakshatras or star constellations. Each nakshatra has a span of 13 degrees and 20 minutes. After that each nakshatra was further subdivided into 4 Padas, or quarters, of 3 degrees and 20 minutes.

Hence the first zodiac sign Aries, which has 30 degrees, contains the entire 4 padas (13:20′) of the 1st star constellation Ashwini, the entire 4 padas (13:20′) of the 2nd star constellation Bharani and the 1st pada (3:20′) of the third star constellation Krittika. So each rasi contains total 9 padas.

These nakshatras belong to three main groups: Deva or divine, Manusha or human and Rakshasa or Demonic.

They have different ruling deities, owned by different planets and have divergent qualities. Hence while studying the effects of a planet placed in Aries, it is also studied in which nakshatra it is placed and in which pada of that nakshatra it is placed. This system of analysis exists only in Indian astrology.

The nakshatra in which your moon is placed at the time of your birth is called your

Janma Nakshatra. This janma nakshatra has also got its influence on you.

Who is known as a Hindu ?

The question is who is Hindu…??? how to define and say a person is Hindu….???
When A person is called muslim if he is following five things….and believe in prophet muhamad…
When A person is called christian…if believes that Jesus Christ is son of god and follows him…
When A person is called jews if believes in Prophet Moses… like wise buddhist ,Sikh etc.
————————–————————–————————–————-
-Every religion are like JUGNU (The glowing fly) which glows for sometime later disappears. Sanathan Dharma means Bhagwan vacha: – Words of God which were present before creation & would be present after destruction.
Hindus are the those who accepts Prophet, moses, Messengers, Jews, Sikhs, buddhist everybody because scriptures says we are not this body but the soul, we need to resepect the presence of soul which is part & parcel of God & not the outer material covering saying he is a muslim or a chrisitian etc because after death the body dies & the part of God/soul remains. (“I am in everyone’s heart as the Supersoul. As soon as one desires to worship some demigod, I make his faith steady so that he can devote himself to that particular deity.” Gita 7.21)
Hindusim/Sanatan Dharma is the ocean where the rivers like buddhism, jainism, islam, christinity etc meets. (“Those who are devotees of other gods and who worship them with faith actually worship only Me, O son of Kunti, but they do so in a wrong way.” GITA 9.23)
Sanatan means Eternal & Dharma means an art of living.
Who is Sanatan? – All Jiva Tattvaas are considered as Sanatan/Eternal being, which are from Sri Brahmaji to all his creation who got a life, animals, birds, fishm humans & so every religion are directly or indirectly considered as Sanatan Dharma
What is Dharma? – Dharma of birds is to fly, dharma of river is to flow, dharma of fish is to swim, dharma of sun is to spread light, dharma of humans is to love God.
Sometimes the river water turns to ice which is called as temperory change in his real nature/Dharma but after few days it comes back to its original nature which is his real dharma.
Sameway forming of diffrent religions are considered as a Temperory change in our society & the original dharma is Being sanata/eternal so like the water comes to its original state & so does every eternal being would come to its original state.
What is the Goal of following Dharma?
Goal of the River is to meet the ocean, Goal of human/soul is to meet the super Soul.
Refrence/Proof of diffrent religion/community mentioned in Vedic text based on Sanatan teachings.
Bhavisha puran got prophencies of Islam
Shrimad Bhagwatam got Prophencies of Buddhism & Jainism (Lord Rishbdev & the King named ARHANT)
Manu Scripts Got refrence of Christinity.
These scripts are not written after the event took place but many years before the event took place.
Every acharya/saintly man who changed the way of living depending on the time & situation is called religion, who did it for their community but not for every individual of this planet, such community thinks of just their self but not others.
Who is God? -
The one who thinks about many universes and not just the community,
The 1 who is present in everybody
The one who sees everybody as the atma.
So if anybody wants to hear the Gods words listen to bhagwat vani, sri Bhagawan Uvacha, bhagwan/god, Uvacha/words. Like we read in Gita, bhagwatam, purans etc. The words which gives the knowledge of The God. The one which remains for just few kal (time) is called religion but the one which stays forever is bhagwat vani- the gods words which is Sanatan/eternal truth. He says this is aham wani means the words of every individual on this planetsl this is my language aham. This is not diffrent for animals, birds, humans, it is our vani, language in everybody is given by King Ishkwaku & he received from The Sun God vivashwan, Lord Rama Incarnated in Suryanshi dynaasty whose root was King Ishwaaku & this knowledge extent for millions of years after Tretayuga & just 5114 years back in Dwaparyuga the same words are said by God Krishna to Arjuna in the Battle Feild.

Navratri Puja at Home

Navrathri is amongst the most important Hindu festivals. This auspicious festival is celebrated with great zeal and devotion throughout the country. The literal meaning of 'Navarathiri' is 'nine auspicious nights'. Navarathiri is a pious festival celebrated in the honor of nine different forms of the Goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati for nine continuous days. The Goddess of Power is worshipped during these days in order to seek her blessings and protection from any unknown fear and possible threat. The devotees ask for peace and prosperity from the Goddess. The Goddess of power has the supremacy over the creation, preservation and destruction of the universe. Navaratri is being celebrated in our country adhering to all the customs and rituals. It is of utmost importance to know the exact method of performing the Navarathiri Pooja.

Here, are the basic Navratri Pooja procedures.

Items to be required for the Navarathiri Pooja:
• Picture or Idol of Goddess Durga, Goddess Laxmi and Goddess
Saraswati in the Pooja room
• A dupatta or sari to offer to the deity’s
• Ganga water or plain water in Khumbha
• Fresh and washed mango leaves
• One coconut smeared with turmeric powder
• Sandalwood paste
• Kungkumam - red sacred powder for tilagam
• Rice ( to be place under the khumbam)

You will need incense sticks, a 'deep' and a matchstick. You will also require some fresh flowers like rose, jasmine or red hibiscus. You may offer fresh fruits and sweets such as 'laddoo', or 'peda' for prasad. Take a mat, to sit. If possible, every member of the house should sit together.

Navratri Pooja procedures:

Take bath and wear tradisional clothes. Focus your mind and attention towards the prayers. On the right hand side of the idol, keep incense sticks etc. Keep yourself prepared to do the Puja with full devotion and concentration. Keep the kalash and coconut as well. Lay the mat and sit in an upright position in front of the deity. Light the 'deep'. Ring the bell or blow the 'Shankha'.

For “Khumba or kalash preparation”

Place the kalash near the idol or picture of the deity and fill it with pure water. Place mango leaves on the mouth of the kalasham. Place a coconut inside the kalasha or khumbam.
Sprinkle 'Ganga water' all over the Puja room. Now, offer sandalwood powder to the Goddess. Then, offer the sari or dupatta to the Goddess. Place some fresh flowers in front of the Goddess. Light 'agarbatti' or incense sticks. Fold your hands and pray. At last, offer prasadam and do pooja of Goddess Durga. Pray with whole heart.

The same procedure to be repeat for the whole 9 days prayers.

The festival of Navratri is divided into the sets of three days. These sets are formulated to worship the different forms of the Goddess. On the first three days, Goddess Durga is revered and worshipped. She is known to be the master of power and eliminates all the evil and fear from the mind and life of the devotees.
The next three days are devoted to the Goddess of wealth- Lakshmi. She showers the blessings of never-ending wealth upon her devotees.
The final set of three days is devoted for worshipping the Goddess of wisdom- Saraswati. She is responsible for spiritual enlightenment and success in life.

The Goddesses are worshipped under nine different names and in nine different characters during the nine prosperous days. The first form of Goddess Durga is 'Shailputri' meaning the 'Goddess of Himalayas' is worshipped on the first day.
The second form of Goddess Durga is 'Brahmacharini', worshipped on the second day. Her name is derived from the word 'Brahma'.
On the third day, the Goddess is worshipped as 'Chandraghanta'. She symbolizes beauty and bravery.
The Goddess 'Kushmanda' is worshipped on the fourth day. She is believed to be the creator of the universe.
On the fifth day, 'Skanda Mata' is worshipped. She is the mother of the chief warrior of the God's Army, Skanda.
The sixth day is devoted for the Goddess 'Katyayani', who has three eyes and four hands.
The Goddess 'Kalratri' is worshipped on the seventh day of Navaratri. She is as black as the night and takes away all the fears from the devotees. The Goddess 'Maha Gauri' is worshipped on the eighth day of Navaratri. She is the epitome of beauty and as white as the snow. She represents calmness and wisdom.
The ninth day, also known as 'Mahanavami', is the concluding day of Navaratri. Goddess 'Siddhidatri' is worshipped on the last day of Navaratri.

Navaratri is a festival of sentiments, positive thoughts, peace and prosperity. Every year it is welcomed with great respect and love. People refrain from wrong deeds and indulge in pure devotion.

Shamanism Beliefs: The Soul

In a shamanic culture the individuals knew what was out of balance in their lives that might have caused an illness or issue to occur.
In our culture we are unaware of what is out of spiritual harmony that is creating illness. And because often our soul loss happened so young we are unaware of the unconscious patterns we are living out due to our first soul loss. We are always trying to retrieve our soul. And how we do this is by repeating the same trauma over and over again. The names might change of the people involved in our life story, but the story is often the same.
It is believed that whenever we suffer an emotional or physical trauma a piece of our soul flees the body in order to survive the experience.
Compare this to the western psychiatric notion of “dissociation” — the splitting-off of a part or parts of the mind or personality as a result of trauma. It’s as if one part takes on the trauma in full and is then sealed off from the rest, so as to protect the rest. The rest might include the conscious mind, hence repression of conscious knowledge of an event (e.g. incest — memories of which many people completely repress).
I see the loss of portions of the soul as a corollary to possession or invasion by entities. You can lose bits of your own soul, and you can also be carrying bits of someone else’s, and neither is good.
The shamanic tradition holds that you should just be carrying your own, and all of it. This is one problem I have with the notion that more than one person can have lived the same past life — each person would then have only a partial soul, and if the shamans are right, that can’t be healthy.
So, to return to the idea of remembering past lives for healing purposes: suppose we suffered a trauma severe enough to cleave off part of our soul — in a past life? And so that bit of soul didn’t come with us into this one?
In Villoldo’s book, he references the Laika, and it isn’t a matter always of going to the past. Instead he says they see evolution as a journeying into the future to “see who we’re becoming” so that we may bring that knowledge back to the present. He then says that the Lakia believe that it is memories stored in our “luminous energy field (the karma from our former lives)” that determines our current situation. He talks about the fifth world – which is found within the higher chakras, and it is in these higher chakras that we meet our perfect and original self – in order to heal.
He does talk about journeying into past lives and into a lifetime in which you suffered the most – but he gets specific;
Quote:
…..then the one in which you had the greatest knowledge and power but used your gifts poorly; and the past life in which you had great wisdom and used your gifts well. And as you look at these life times, you’re going to drain the energy from these formers selves – even do this for the lifetime in which you used your gifts well, because even then you were no more developed spiritually than you are today, for reincarnation is progressive, not regressive–that is, you haven’t fallen behind where you were in that wise lifetime, and now you can move forward even more
What I find so interesting is that he says you only need these three life times to be set free of the karma within you and that there is a domino effect – backward, that will occur clearing ALL your former lifetimes.
The shamanic cure is for a shaman to journey to wherever that bit is, find it and return it to us.
But the more standard Western cure, derived from modern psychiatry/psychology, and with which I’m more familiar — is to remember and work through the traumatic experience, releasing repressed emotions.
That would necessitate remembering past lives.

Chakra Meditation

Within our bodies there are focal points of energy that we use, whether consciously or unconsciously, to affect reality and allow us to fully experience and realize events that unfold before us. These focal points are called Chakras.
Chakras are located in important parts of your body such as your head or heart. Any organs within the area of these Chakras are used to control; and are, therefore, directly affected by the properties of that Chakra. There are seven Chakras located throughout the body, each with their own unique attributes and characteristics:
The Root Chakra is located directly at the base of the spine, also known as the coccyx. This Chakra is closely related to the body and our ability to master it. One’s health, constitution and security are linked to this Chakra. In addition, the realization of how our bodies connect to the material world is focused here.

The Naval Chakra is located in the lower abdomen. This Chakra is associated with the acts of giving and receiving, and is tied into the more physical feelings of love, passion and sexuality. The feeling of pleasure is also linked with this Chakra, so one may feel focus and feedback in this Chakra during moments of harmony, generosity, group creativity and selflessness.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is located just above the navel and below the chest. This Chakra is a focus point for our force of will and our sense of transformation. Concentration and control of our personal energies originate from this point. One’s sense of power and authority, as well as self-control and discipline of the ego converge here. This Chakra can be used to sense the very use of one’s internal energies to affect what is outside the body.

The Heart Chakra is located at the center of the chest and is the focus for love and understanding. Feelings that stem from this love such as forgiveness, compassion, balance and harmony radiate from this point. This Chakra also nurtures the rarified feeling of unconditional or divine love, love that goes beyond the physical.

The Throat Chakra is located in the throat area between one’s chin and the top of the sternum. This Chakra is linked to one’s powers of communication. Through this Chakra, one can realize truth and knowledge; honesty, kindness and wisdom and how these elements can be conveyed through thoughtful speech.
Color: Sky Blue

The Brow Chakra is located in the forehead, right above our eyes. This is also known as the region of the “Third Eye” in Buddhist and other belief systems. This Chakra is related to our perception beyond the physical realm. Intuition, insight, imagination and clairvoyance can all be associated with this Chakra. One can also focus their realization of their own soul, divine wisdom and peace of mind in this point.

The Crown Chakra is located at the very top of the head. As one might guess, this Chakra is associated directly with dealings of the mind and spirit. This Chakra is deeply tied to the exploration of one’s consciousness and place in space and time. Oneness with the universe, your spirit and will, inspiration, divine wisdom… all the things that deal with the Higher Self are rooted in this Chakra.
